Kylie Jenner’s Lip Kits have been on sale three separate times, and with each restock, have sold out in mere moments. Luckily, this time I managed to snag a few! The colors I tried are True Brown and Mary Jo.
Packaging
I have to say, I’m impressed with the packaging! It feels nice and sturdy in your hand. The Rocky Horror Picture show vibes are right up my alley. The wand on this thing is probably my favorite of any liquid lipstick I’ve ever used. I can’t put my finger on why, because visually it doesn’t look any different, but it certainly feels different. It’s very precise, which is pretty important when it comes to liquid lipsticks if you don’t want to end up looking like Frank N. Furter. The cute boxes they came in had some super in depth instruction:
“Kylie’s Tips:
Line lips with lip liner and fill in with liquid lip color”
The girl is a genius, I tell ya. It made me think of those infomercials where the whole screen goes black and white and the person is trying to use the products but failing hilariously. Then you read the instructions Kylie painstakingly slaved over and it all clicks in your head. Screen goes back to full color and you’re lining your lips like a freaking pro.
Formula
I was pretty surprised at how nice these are, considering they’re really not that expensive. They are completely opaque at first swipe, and I had no issues with it being streaky. In my experience, the Stila liquid lipsticks tend to ball up a bit if you keep reapplying, and I did not have that problem with either color of Kylie’s kit. The lip liners are so silky, in the sense that they glide on without skipping, but not so dry that you feel they’re going to smear everywhere if you accidently wipe it. I will be using the lip liners independently from the lipsticks if I’m feeling low maintenance and don’t really feel like wearing a liquid lip all day. My only gripe with the liners was that Mary Jo was a bit pink and you had to layer it to make it red. They dry down completely matte pretty quickly, and you won’t have that tacky feeling when your lips touch. There is some transfer on anything your lips might touch, but your lips remain miraculously unaltered. Witchcraft. They last for about 5 hours before you start to get that unflattering wear in the center of your lips.
Price
I am happy with the price. The formula is worth it and the fact that you get a matching lip liner sweetens the deal. If these were not so annoyingly hard to obtain, I would definitely purchase the rest of the colors. Here is a little breakdown of the cost per ounce of a few popular liquid lipsticks:
Kylie Lip Kit Liquid Lipstick Only (15 dollars/ .11oz ) $136.31 per oz.
Anastasia Beverly Hills (20 dollars / .11oz) $181.82 per oz.
Kat Von D Liquid Lipstick (20 dollars/ .22oz) $90.91 per oz.
Gripe:
WHY ARE THESE SO HARD TO GET? Seriously, Kylie. I get why you do this, but it’s annoying and you should stop it. Be a bro. I’m sure Sephora would love to bargain with you.
