Mints
You never know who you’re going to meet when you’re out and about. It might be your future boss or the guy of your dreams–make sure you’re prepared! You’re going to need something to freshen you up and get rid of that stale coffee breath. You’ll never regret carrying a little container of mints like Altoids or Tic Tacs to make sure you make a great impression every time.
Business Cards
You might not need them every day, but when you do, you’ll be so glad you have them! You can get great business cards from a site like Vista Print or Moo.com in any style you can imagine for cheaper than you think. If you’re a freelancer or doing some general networking, you can get “calling cards,” which are snazzy business cards with just your basic information on them (name, email, phone, and don’t forget your LinkedIn profile!), perfect for any situation. Think how much classier you’ll be when you offer a business card rather than jotting your name down on a piece of scrap paper.
Emergency Money
Everyone has has that night where they partied a little too hard and now they need to get home. Stay safe–don’t try to drive. Use your emergency cash for a cab home (and to buy some gatorade for the next morning–we won’t judge). If you think you’ll be too tempted to spend the dough, stash it in place you never check, like in between your phone and your phone cover, to make sure you have it when you need it.
Go-to Lipstick
Every girl’s got a go-to lipstick, but sometimes in your rush out the door you might forget it on the bathroom sink. It’s worth the investment to buy an extra lipstick to keep in your bag so you can keep up your look throughout the day no matter how forgetful you were that morning.
Refresher Makeup
You might not need your whole makeup bag, but make sure you keep an extra compact of light powder and a mini kabuki brush to freshen up your look between the office and the club. My favorite powder is Make Up For Ever Duo Matte Powder Foundation–it’s light and doesn’t clog up your pores (and looks fabulous!).
Collapsible Brush
I got a collapsible hairbrush as a gift and it totally changed my life. My hair tends to get puffy and knotted throughout the day but having a huge brush in your bag can be awkward. Plus, it tends to tangle up in everything (have you ever tried untangling your headphone cords from every little bristle of your favorite brush? Yuck). A little retractable brush can fit in any purse, even your little clutch, without taking up much room or being a pain to untangle.
Extra Charger and External Battery
We’re always on the run and we barely put our phones down, so it’s not surprising that your phone never seems to last as long as you need it to. The last thing you want is for your phone to die just as you’re trying to look up directions to the restaurant. A lot of us carry extra chargers but so many people forget an external battery. I love this one from Modcloth–it’s compact, easy to fit into any purse, and charges your phone no matter where you are. Plus, it’s pretty! Never deal with a dead battery again.
