First it was contouring and highlighting. Then it was strobing, which is, essentially, just highlighting and skipping the contour. Every cosmetics brand everywhere has released highlights under various names. Illuminators, Shimmering Skin Perfectors. Sensual Skin Enhancers. Any way you put it, shimmering skin has been on trend for the last few years. It was only a matter of time before shimmer gave way to full blown glitter, and spread from the face to…well, everywhere. From glitter roots to glitter lips, here is how glitter is taking over the world.
Glitter Roots
The newest way to cover your roots is to hide them beneath a metric ton of glitter. I have to say, this trend really boggles my mind. Sure, it looks dope, but doesn’t it get EVERYWHERE? How long does it take to get it out of your hair? Do you wear it every day leading up to your next hair appointment? Can someone explain how I can get away with it at work? I want to try!
Glitter on the Runways
Slightly more wearable, this is a trend I can get behind. Celebrities everywhere have sparkled in glittery frocks at red carpet events, including Julianne Moore and Jenna Dewan Tatum. Designer Ashish Gupta is known for his glittery sequined pieces, and his 2016 shows were no exception. Glitter and sparkles adorned the women’s hair, eyes, and clothes. I love seeing such sparkle used in a way that fits grown women.
Glitter Lips
This is by far my favorite way to wear glitter. Not only is it edgy and sexy, but it also has a nice added bonus of making your lips look more full. Wearing a glitter lip is less time consuming and easy to remove if you decide you’re not into it anymore. Want to know how easy it is to do? Check out this glitter lips tutorial.
