As the seasons change so does fashion. Trends come and go as quickly as it takes the shrubs and trees to bloom flowers and fruits. Spring is the lovely time of the year where we exchange our winter coats and thermals for more temperature appropriate attire. Quite frankly, it’s about time. Luckily, this year, Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow which means Spring is on time and so are the trends that come with it. These are the 12 fashion trends you definitely need to try this spring.
Pop of Color Accessories
A pop of color is always a good thing. When an outfit is more neutral, but you want to make it more appropriate for spring, accessorize with bright shoes or a bright handbag. Don’t be afraid to mix and match by pairing a bright color with a neutral outfit. It’s perfect for a fast way to accessorize without much thought.
Zara: Mini Tote with Interior Print – $39.90
Charlotte Russe: Qupid Quilted Smoking Loafers – $18
Tassels
Tassels are no longer for your pillows or purses. They are making quite the statement as accessories this season. You can wear tassels in any capacity, whether it’s on your skirt, your shirt, big tassels or small, they’re sure to spruce up any outfit. My favorite way to incorporate tassels in my outfits are as earrings and on my shoes.
BaubleBar: Verona Tassel Drops Earrings – $34
A’Gaci: Pensee-32 Put A Tassel In It Heel – $24.90
Slip Dresses
In the mood for something sultry? A slip dress is the perfect choice for someone who wants a change to the bodycon dress. Slip dresses can complement any body type as they aren’t form fitting yet there’s still a sense of sexiness to it. For a more daytime appropriate way to wear this trend, wear one in a color perfect for Spring such as a pastel or light neutral.
ASOS: Cold Shoulder Satin Short Slip – $29.65
TopShop: Cross Strap Slip Dress – $55
Lightweight Outerwear
Spring can still be a bit chilly, but let’s be real, lightweight outerwear is more for the looks than for the temperature regulation. If your outfit is looking a bit plain Jane for your taste, adding a lightweight layer can step it up a notch. My favorites are long short sleeve or sleeveless cover ups such as a blazer or duster.
GoJane: Boast About It Long Vest – $39.38
BooHoo: Kara Maxi Belted Duster – $30
Chunky Heels
Chunky heels are a lot sturdier than our usual stilettos. They are a girl’s best friend when it comes to navigating through grass, pebbles, basically anything that isn’t solid and easy to walk on. Spring is all about enjoying the warmer weather, so navigating the outdoors in studier shoes is a must!
TopShop: ROSA Knotted High Sandals – $130
Nordstrom: Steve Madden ‘Carrson’ Sandal – $74.25
Ripped Knees
Distressed denim is always in, but this season ripped knees specifically are making their way on the scene. Whether it’s in a light wash or dark, you can dress this trend up or down. You can make it grungy, you can make it preppy, you can make it bohemian. It can literally go with any style known to man.
ASOS: Ridley Skinny Jeans In Brasswood Dark Stone Wash Blue With Rips – $51
Nasty Gal: Aline High-Waisted Cropped Skinny Jeans in White – $68
High Neck Pieces
We can all thank Kylie Jenner for this one. Although some people may be a little shy to this trend, it’s one to try out. A high neck piece can add a touch of class to an outfit. Using this conservative look in an edgy way, such as in a bodysuit or off the shoulder top, makes it more youthful and less like you’re wearing grandma’s turtleneck.
Missguided: Crepe Curve Hem Cut Out Bodycon Dress in Blue – $30.60
American Apparel: Choker Top – $38
Fringe
Fringe has been on trend since Fall and it certainly is not going anywhere any time soon. It can be overbearing if worn in a ridiculous way (such as one too many fringe pieces in an outfit – trust me, one piece is enough!), but if done right, fringe can give an outfit some pizzazz.
Charlotte Russe: Fringed Lace-Up Two Piece Dress Sandals – $25
LuLu’s: Spur of the Moment Taupe Suede Fringe Skirt – $30
Bell Sleeves
Since we are taking it back to the 70’s with the fringe, we might as well bring back bell sleeves, right? Bell sleeves are nothing to be intimidated by. They can make arms look thinner and add a piece of mod to your outfit.
Nasty Gal: Time Will Bell Mini Dress – $68
ASOS: Glamorous Petite Plunge Front Bell Sleeve Romper – $65
Bucket Handbags
The less you have to lug around, the better. Bucket bags make it easier not to overpack our purses with junk we simply don’t need to be carrying around. They’re a nice change to the typical crossbody bag, offering a bit more storage, but still light enough to wear.
Barney’s Warehouse: Marc by Marc Jacobs Luna Bucket Bag – $279
Choker Necklaces
It’s safe to say I never thought this trend would be back, but luckily for us, choker necklaces are much higher quality than they were in the 90’s. Choker necklaces can accessorize a slip dress or off the shoulder shirt nicely, giving the comfort of a more clothed look while not having to cover up.
BaubleBar: Phoebe Choker – $38
Forever 21: Knotted Chain Choker – $7.90
Statement Sunglasses
Bold sunglasses are becoming a way to accessorize an outfit. Odd shapes and frames are now being designed by the likes of Dior and more. You can change the vibe of an outfit with sunglasses by playing up the style for a high fashion look or you can make it more classic yet chic by sticking to simple frames and mirrored lenses.
Amazon: GMAT Retro Vintage Mirrored Aviator Sunglasses Metal Frame Classic Style in Pink – $19.90
Urban Outfitters: Quay On The Prowl Sunglasses – $50
