Every year in Cannes, France, movie stars gather for a little film festival called the Cannes Film Festival. It’s the most publicized film festival in the world and in my opinion, we can thank fashion for that. Over the years, I feel like I hear more about the fashion at Cannes more than the actual movies. Fashionistas look to this festival to gawk at the beaded bodices and extravagant gowns. I personally live vicariously through these celebs because a) I’m eight months pregnant and can’t even fit into my own clothes and b) the gowns are probably worth more than my entire life put together. Although there are still a few days to go (the festival is from May 11 to May 22), the fashion game has already been slayed to death. Here are my top picks for best looks and how you can get them for less.
Kendall Jenner stunned in this one piece Emilia Wickstead jumpsuit with matching white heels. Her sunnies make the look classic, bringing an old Hollywood vibe to the ensemble. For a cheaper alternative, consider this double layer cut out jumpsuit in white from Missguided, these braided two-piece dress heels from Charlotte Russe, and these Quay Australia sunglasses in the style Rhymes.
Despite black being a safe choice for a red carpet, Toni Garrn stunned in this dress. Why? The edgy high leg slit, the cut of the bodice was different and the texture mix by having velvet as the fabric of choice for the bustier. All of those things wrapped into one dress made it unique and gorgeous. Pulling the hair back, but not going for a traditional updo added to the extravagance of the look. If you love this look, but not the price, NastyGal has a fabulous high slit maxi dress similar to Toni’s. Pair it with this crystal garland strand necklace from Baublebar, a slim croc clutch bag from ASOS, and these faux suede heels from Forever 21 to complete the look.
Kristen Stewart looks like the ultimate cool girl that barely tried. It’s almost like she woke up like this. Her dress seems effortless. The only effort is the matching metallic shoes that bring out the metallic print details of the dress. Finishing the look with some uber chic sunnies just says she doesn’t even have to try to be stylish. It just…happened. Best part about this outfit is anyone can really pull it off. Ain’t nobody got the cash to spend on this Chanel dress, but I got you covered. A similar alternative (without the metallic) this drawstring dress from ASOS. To sass it up, pair it with these pair of bejeweled heels from ASOS and a pair of rounded sunglasses from Urban Outfitters.
This unique Roberto Cavalli dress awed a lot of fashion critics. Bella Hadid wore it with pride as you can see by her pose. The intricate details that make up this dress could not be done by anyone else any better than Cavalli himself. Because it’s so unique, it’s not an easy dress to find a cheaper alternative to. In addition, I’m not one to splurge or go out and buy these kinds of dresses because they’re typically for a once in a lifetime event. That being said, my option would be to rent a gown if you so desire to replicate this beauty. Luckily, Rent The Runway has a Badgley Mischka gown remotely similar to this one (if you use your imagination a little bit). Throw on this Ella Carter choker and these strappy gold metallic heels from LuLu’s and you’re ready for your event.
This look is hands down my favorite of the bunch. It’s easy to incorporate in your every day outfits and can look casual or a bit more chic depending on how you wear your hair. The color red is always flattering and Blake Lively certainly makes me want to wear this jumpsuit even with a eight month pregnancy belly. Forever 21 has the perfect red jumpsuit to mimic this look. Add a red belt from Forever 21 and a choker from Bauble Bar with these BCBGeneration Darron Two-Toned Patent Pumps in nude to complete the look and feel as lively as Blake in this attire.
Blake Lively owned the red carpet in yet another unique gown from the Atelier Versace collection. The bead work on this dress make it look like she was dipped into diamonds just perfectly. Unfortunately, this is another look that is completely impossible to find a dupe for, but I was able to find a similar silhouette on Rent The Runway with this Jill Stuart gown. Bring out the bling with these Dannijo earrings and complete the look with these metallic lace up heels from Steve Madden in the style Mysty.
