The bucket hat — you know, that thing you’ve seen fishermen, military, and Rihanna wear. Well, if you haven’t already noticed, they’re back in style and you can hardly go a day without seeing someone wearing one. Big brands like HUF, Vans, and even Gucci are showing their tribute by developing their own take on the resurfacing trend.

I consider myself pretty tolerant of bad-but-comfortable fashion trends. I have (and wear) Birkenstocks, I’m a huge fan of the ultra comfortable baggy boyfriend jeans, and I have about 5 different pairs of jogger pants. Even so, the bucket hat barely makes it across the line of acceptable fashion to me.
Nevertheless, this week’s Wacky Trend Wednesday has become so big that it can be spotted on mothers, children, rappers, and models alike. In fact, if you search Instagram for posts tagged #buckethat, you’ll see over 341,000 posts!

Don’t get me wrong — despite everything, I’m not completely against wearing these hats. Back in 1996, I confidently sported the latest Limited Too bucket hat. All trends come back around eventually, right?
I also really appreciate their diverse uses. They fit virtually any head shape, personal style, and hey, if you have too much to carry, they can double as a bag in a pinch.
Like most hats, bucket hats also offer the sun-shielding protection of your head, face, and neck.
