5 Skincare Secrets from a Pro
1. Oil is for everyone.
It may seem counter-intuitive, but applying skin oil could be the best thing you do for your face, even if you have “oily” skin. Here’s why: Numerous factors cause your skin to dry out and shrivel up: Environment, hormones, aging, or even stress. So to try to hydrate itself, your skin will often over-produce its normal, natural oils. This causes clogged pores and eventually, breakouts. Choose a light, all-natural oil like maracuja or argan and apply it lightly to neck and face after cleansing. Give the oil a minute or two to absorb before applying makeup.
2. Moisturize to Minimize Scarring
As tempting as it is, resist the urge to load up on tons of drying makeup to cover acne scarring. Instead, use a light moisturizer, even if you have oily skin. Similarly to #1 above, moisture will keep your thirsty skin happy and make scarring less visible as well as reduce future breakouts.
3. Use a washcloth on your face.
Really, just a washcloth? What about the fancy scrubbing pads or exfoliating cleansers? Nope, just a washcloth. The facial skin is so delicate that often, harsh exfoliants have the opposite effect than they’re supposed to, and create bumpy irritation on the skin. Instead, use just a washcloth and your regular gentle cleanser once per week to exfoliate your face and reveal brighter, smoother skin in just a few weeks.
4. Use acne creams to soothe razor burn.
Okay, so this is a weird one. But it works! Use any skin exfoliating/acne preventing serum after shaving and keep razor burn (especially in delicate places) at bay.
5. Prone to freckling in the sun? Use a dark spot corrector.
Dark spot correctors that contain alpha arbutin block the synthesis of melanin to brighten the complexion, but they also prevent new freckles from forming. Just be sure to wear sunblock as well!
