It’s downright embarrassing how many makeup brands don’t cater to brown beauties. When they come out with new foundations and concealers there are two or three shades, tops, of deep shades in a sea of shell- and linen-colored bottles. Needless to say, shopping for makeup can be downright annoying. Not only that, but a lot of the time, associates in these stores don’t know how to give advice for your skin type.

This is more of a tip for everyone, but it’s a good rule to have. Get samples. Don’t assume that just because some handy little machine matched you to your perfect foundation in-store means that it will actually work for you. Sometimes foundations can work in the store and oxidize later or it could just look wrong in natural lighting. The testers are free. Ask for one and try them out before you drop your hard-earned cash.

Women of color tend to have the sexiest full lips, and this can lead to getting makeup on your chin and nose. Lining your lips first will keep it from feathering, but using a topper like Lipcote or Anastasia Waterproofing Gel will help it stay where your put it.

Make Up For Ever, Nars, and Bobbi Brown generally have a good shade range in various tones when it comes to deeper toned ladies. If you find one that is close, but not perfect, mix in a drop or two of Cover FX Custom Color Drops to create your perfect match. They’re on the expensive side, but will last forever!
Warm Tones

Use warm tones to highlight. Anything too light on your cheekbones or cupid’s bow will do the opposite of giving you a glow and instead just make you ashy. Stick to amber and gold tones on your hight points for a sexy healthy glow.
Choose Brown, not Black

It makes sense to think you should use black powder on your brows since the hair is dark brown or black, right? No. Doing your brows in black can come off really harsh. Go for a dark brown pencil and shadow like Anastasia Beverly Hills Ebony. It’s perfect because it’s not warm toned so it won’t come off orange on your skin.
Go Orange

Speaking of orange, orange is your holy grail. Orange concealers will cancel out any purple tones in your skin and brighten up any area you place it. If you struggle with dark circles or hyper pigmentation around your nose or lips, this is you answer.
Sonjdra Deluxe, Destiny Godley, and Nikki Perkins are among the best YouTubers who cater to deeper skin tones.
