As a redhead, I understand all the struggles we have when deciding what makeup to buy or deciding what looks best with our crazy, colored hair. From moisturizers to eye shadows, here’s the best beauty tips for the freckled-faced, redheads out there:
Beauty Tips for Redheads
Make Sunscreen Your New BFF
Generally, if you’re a redhead, you have a lighter complexion than compared to your family. While not all of us might not be the palest white skin color, every redhead still needs to watch out for the sun.
Having the redhead gene makes you more susceptible to skin cancer, so the easiest way to prevent cancer is through sunscreen.
Obviously, no one wants to be smelling like sunscreen every day for the rest of our lives, so instead, try opting for a moisturizer that contains at least SPF 15. Olay’s Complete All Day Moisturizer has SPF 15 and keeps your skin lovely and soft all day while combating the harsh rays of the sun.
Brown is the New Black
While most people usually opt for the black eyeliner and mascara, often times that look might be a little too severe-looking for redheads. Instead, try avoid black and instead opt for a brown color for your eyeliner and mascara.
While this might be require some time for experimentation, as the perfect color depends on the color of your red hair and your complexion. If you’re looking for a jumping off point, start with Maybelline’s New York Unstoppable Eye Liner, which contains colors like espresso and cinnabar.
For mascara, try No7’s Exceptional Definition brown mascara; this is an excellent addition to your makeup collection and gives you a color of brown that should work on most complexions.
A Pop of Color
While keeping your basic makeup like eyeliner and mascara with a neutral brown, redheads should have a little fun with color from time to time.
When it comes to lip colors, redheads can pull off a lot of colors, including corals to bright reds. An important thing to remember is avoid colors that resemble your hair too much, but with that in mind, remember to have fun!
Covergirl’s Outlast All Day Two-Step Lipcolor is an affordable lip stain option for those who want to avoid the fuss of regular lipsticks and at an affordable price, you can grab a couple colors to test out.
When it comes to eyeshadows, make sure to keep your own eye color in mind. Redheads vary from green, blue, and brown, so generally favoring more browns, pinks, and even a little shimmer of gold is your best bets when it comes to eye color.
The must-have for eyeshadows is Urban Decay’s Naked collection, so try out their basic collections to see what colors fits your face the best.
Embrace the freckles
Besides our red hair, freckles can be the most defining aspect of ourselves. While some want to cover it up underneath layers of foundation, I say put down that foundation and embrace the freckles!
Not only going for a more natural look is my favorite day to day look, it’s also really obvious when you don’t put on foundation – and who wants to do that every day? If you do feel like you must have some sort of foundation, there are tinted moisturizers out there that has the best of both worlds like Sephora’s Skin Perfect CC Cream. Guess what — it comes with sunscreen too
Keep your porcelain skin looking perfect by picking the best sunscreen for maximum protection!
