During this past year, a new trend has emerged in beauty: the bold lip. While red lipstick has always been a classic, other colors have been less prevalent (and definitely more muted) in years past. Now, all that is changing. And orange is one of the top colors gaining popularity. From high end designers to major celebrities, everyone seems to be wearing an orange lip color this spring.
Although my first thought was that it would look drastic and scary (think Halloween), orange has really surprised me. Turns out, this daring color looks good on almost everyone (assuming you are wearing the right shade for your complexion). Plus, it adds that pop of color perfect for spring.
Still unsure? Here’s how you can make orange lipstick work:

Match it to your skin tone
Although orange lipstick can be incredibly flattering, it also has the potential to be disastrous, so choosing the right color is very important.
Fair Complexions:

Check out true oranges or tones that are a bit lighter. Pastels and corals can play up the color without making you look washed out.

Medium Complexions:

You can go bold with orange. Try a vibrant, bright orange or an orange that contains a bit of yellow and gold to bring out the warm undertones of your skin.
Dark Complexions:

Use an orange that contains a brown or brick-red base to deepen the color and make your features stand out.
Keep it simple

Orange can be an overwhelming color, so your makeup and wardrobe need to complement it. If you’re wearing an orange lip, keep the eyeshadow and eyeliner to a minimum. Using a little bit will make your eyes pop, but not overwhelm. You should also keep your clothing in mind – don’t overdo pattern and colors. Black and whites and florals tend to look stunning with orange lips.
