Twenty movies, twenty-plus strong, awesome female leads that’ll have you rooting for the home team. Add these to your must watch list and remind yourself that you, too, are a total badass.

1. Alien
Sigourney Weaver…angry…covered in alien guts. I’m sorry, what was that you were complaining about earlier?
2. Erin Brockovich
There’s just too much good here. I’m not going to bother trying to talk about Julia Roberts.

3. The Silence of the Lambs
Jodie Foster always nails it, but this performance is next level, and reminds you of just how much a girl’s up against in this world – and by this world I mean in the mind of a cannibal.
4. Pan’s Labyrinth
Not for the faint of heart (or stomach), but worth every jump and cringe.
5. Thelma & Louise
An ode to best friends everywhere, and sweet, sweet revenge…at a cost. Oh and BRAD PIT OHMYGOOOODDDDD.
6. The Help
Whether or not you read the book, there is so much to be gained from the extremely brave and wonderful characters in this story. Standing up for people is cool because Emma Stone says so, spread the word.
7. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
You won’t notice it’s not in English after the first five minutes, trust me.
8. Pride & Prejudice
My all time favorite. This movie has forever ruined modern romance for me. “Oh that’s cute, you liked my picture… WHERE’S THE HORSE AND CARRIAGE AND THE HANDWRITTEN LOVE LETTERS AND YOUR PIERCING BLUE EYES STARING AT ME IN UTTER ADORATION AS YOU BREATHE MONEY INTO MY HANDS?!”
9. Winter’s Bone
Jennifer Lawrence’s break out role. Watch this and then ask yourself, “what’s your excuse?”
10 & 11. Kill Bill Volumes 1 & 2
You may not be into Tarantino normally, but you are going to be for this. Understood?
12. Matilda
A true underdog, Matilda was the ultimate role model back when you still thought there was a chance you could move things with your mind (which just so happens to be last week for me).
13. The Hunger Games
It’s too recent to bother commenting on Katniss, but had to include her nonetheless.
14. Brave
Fun fact: went to see this alone when I got in a fight with my ex. Best decision I ever made.

15. Mary Poppins
The originator of “I SWEAR my keys are somewhere in this purse!”
16. Gravity
Sandra Bullock can do no wrong. Well, except for letting Clooney drift off…into Amal’s arms. Idiot.”
17. Million Dollar Baby
Just about as badass as it gets. Although at times hard to watch, there’s no one better to root for than Swank in the ring.
18. Hanna
This one flew under the radar, but is an absolute must see if you like watching little girls beat up full-grown men.
19. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo
Talk about hard to watch…
20. Domino
Keira Knightley plays a model turned bounty hunter who loves guns. Fun fact: this is where Miley Cyrus got the inspiration for her haircut (in my guestimation).
