Mercari is a mobile app that is an amazing and safe way to buy and sell anything! Whether it’s books, technology, or clothing; selling items straight from your phone has never been easier! It’s totally free, easy to use, and has been strangely addictive! Mercari has helped me sell clothes that no longer fit which otherwise would have gone into a donation bin. Here are some tips for buying and selling on Mercari!
Tips For Selling
Pictures
For technology: Take a picture of the front, back, and side of the item. Then take a picture of the item turned/powered on to assure the buyer that it is properly working. This assurance is important, because all sales are final, so buyers are hesitant to buy electronics.
For clothing: Take a picture of the front and back of the item, the tag with the size or price if tags are still attached, and take a closer picture of the pattern or texture of the item. If willing, it has proven helpful to model the item in a picture, whether it is yourself or you can find a picture of a model wearing the item online.
Bundles: Bundles are just what they sound like, a lot of items sold together. In a bundle, take pictures of each item individually or, if the bundle is more than four items, take a few pictures that clearly show every item.
Descriptions
For technology: Describe the make and model of the item. Describe the condition and any flaws of the item in detail, for example,”Silent/ringer toggle button doesn’t work.” If the item is a phone, tell what carrier it is or if it is unlocked. Remember, accurately describe the item the best you can to avoid receiving a poor rating because ALL SALES ARE FINAL.
For clothing: Reiterate what is in the pictures, for example,”Tank top with braided straps in the back.” Make sure to include any descriptions of pilling or stains. A helpful tip is to tell if the item runs small, large, or accurate.
Bundles: Describe each item individually.
Tips On Buying
- If necessary, politely ask for authenticity.
- This may seem silly, but reread the listing to make sure it’s in ADULT sizes.
- If a picture of the item being modeled isn’t included, ask for it to be modeled.
- You can “like” items to be notified of pricing fluctuations and comments.
