1. Find a partner
Make it your hubby, co-worker, friend, sister… someone who will embark on the weight loss journey with you. That way, you have someone to hold you accountable and motivate you. Plus, doing it with a partner is just more fun! It will make you want to go on that 30-minute walk after work because it’s also a good time to gossip with your girlfriend, or it will keep you from ordering dinner after dessert because your hubby isn’t ordering it either.
2. Set a goal
Whether it’s to lose those stubborn ten pounds by your best friend’s wedding or run your first 5K after the snow melts, setting a goal gives you something to aim for and look forward to accomplishing. You are less likely to give up if you know the direction you’re headed in.
Now learn the mistakes that are actually making you gain weight
…So how do you accomplish this goal?
1. Opt for either drinks OR dessert, but not both. It may seem simple, but pick your poison. After a tough day at work, which do you want more: a glass of wine or a cookie? Whichever you choose, do it in moderation. Swapping one out for the other doesn’t mean going off the rails and eating every dessert on the restaurant menu or drinking an entire bottle of wine.
2. Switch things up. Want a sandwich for lunch instead of the same salad you get every day? Ok, either go bread-less or take off one slice. It will taste just as good with a single slice of bread as it will between two. While you’re at it, use mustard instead of mayo. Way less calories and you still get flavor.

3. Drink water. Sports drinks and juice have a lot of sugar and empty calories. Soda’s no good for you either… even if it’s labeled diet. So get some ice and lemons to flavor up that water to stay hydrated.
4. Get moving. It’s up to you how you do it. Whether it’s taking the dog for a 30-minute walk before work or heading to the gym for a kick boxing class afterwards, just start by doing something. Chances are you sit all day at work… so a little movement before or after will keep you energized. Besides, you can watch Real Housewives on the treadmill just as well as you can while sitting on your couch.
No matter what you decide to do, set your mind to it. Little changes can equal big results over time. Plus, doesn’t it get frustrating to tell yourself every Monday that this is the week you’ll start your slim down? Start today.
